Yoga KickOff a Success! CrossFit Yoga Yesterdays Yin Yoga kickoff was a huge success. Instructor Cate brought to us her expression of restorative Yin Yoga. Yin Yoga has the same goals and objectives as any other school of yoga; however, it directs the stimulation normally created in the asana portion of the practice deeper than the superficial or muscular tissues . Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, and even the fascia of the body that normally are not exercised very much in a more active style of asana practice. While initially this style of yoga can seem quite boring, passive, or soft, yin practice can be quite challenging due to the long duration of the poses. We can remain in the postures anywhere from one to twenty minutes! Yin Yoga is a perfect compliment to the very Yang style of CrossFit. Yin yoga teaches you how to really listen, you don’t get the opportunity to go in and out, jump around and find a distracted version of stillness within your practice. Yin is such a great compliment to other styles of intense exercise and your own personal life, because it brings long periods of time in an uncomfortable position, which then asks you to learn to “be” to “accept what is” in that given moment. Something we can all benefit from daily. ]]>
